I have been involved with architectural joinery and cabinet making for thirty years. Starting work in the city of Bath, I made large numbers of replacement sash windows for the listed buildings there, along with many other items for restoration projects. Since then, I have developed a preference for hand-made kitchens and beautiful, challenging staircases. Now, from my workshops overlooking the sea at the southern end of the Isle of Arran, I am increasingly making individual pieces of furniture. Here on Arran, I share my workshop and showroom with my partner, the woodturner Ruth Mae. In addition to this, after a chance contact with Mugenkyo, the foremost professional Taiko drumming group in Britain, ten years ago, I have been making the stands for their drums and have become a maker of taiko drums myself, making mainly for school and community groups; to date, I have been responsible for over 100 drums of various sizes. On Arran, we have a small showroom, open Tuesday to Friday, Easter to October, where you can see some of my furniture and Ruth's beautiful bowls.
